Ahsan Shafiq received the Global Swede diploma

On Tuesday 12 May 2015 Ahsan Shafiq from Pakistan, master student within Textile Management, received the Global Swede diploma by Mikael Damberg, Swedish Minister of Enterprise and Innovation at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

For the fifth consecutive year the Global Swede Ceremony was arranged by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Swedish Institute. This year’s award ceremony honored 22 international students who have distinguished themselves within the areas of innovation and entrepreneurship.

"The award aims to acknowledge the importance of international students in Sweden and to create a platform for global exchange of experiences and to build long lasting relationships with global leaders of the future", as Annika Rembe, Director-General of the Swedish Institute, expressed.

Awarded students are encouraged to engage in the network Global Swede and to act as good ambassadors who promote a positive image of Sweden after their graduation in order to benefit Swedish foreign trade.

The University of Borås nominated Ahsan Shafiq as Global Swede this year who started his Master’s programme in Textile Management with specialization in Fashion Management in August 2014.

“I am very pleased to have been given this opportunity by the University of Borås to participate and represent among other universities. For me the University of Borås is playing a vital role in innovation and development of textiles as well as in other fields. During the ceremony I met distinguished students from other universities in various fields. It is an overall great experience to be a part of the University of Borås and to study here as an international student. I will surely use my gained knowledge later in my professional career and promote Swedish higher education back in my country and globally wherever I move through the Global Swede network “ expressed Ahsan after the ceremony.

Ahsan Shafiq is an ambitious student who shows initiative inside and outside the classroom. As active student representative he engages in dialogue with both students and staff at the university on issues affecting the education and life of international students. He has also been teaching classes as guest teacher at the School of Textiles taking advantage of his experience as Deputy Course Coordinator and Lecturer for the Textile Design Department at the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design.
